Towel sizes, by type

  • Bath towels (designed to be used to dry the body after bath time) - 70 x 130cm
  • Face towel/cloth (used after, or sometimes during, face washing) - 33 x 33cm
  • Beach towels (designed to be laid on top of, featuring a unique and eye-catching design to mark a spot on the sand, for occasional drying) - 76 x 152cm
  • Hand towels (for drying hands after cleaning in the sink) - 50 x 90cm

Best materials for towels

  • Microfibre - a fast-absorbing material, especially for difficult-to-dry areas like hair
  • Bamboo - soft, sustainable, and satin-like finish
  • Organic cotton - kinder to sensitive and young skin, and can withstand multiple washes for greater longevity
  • Waffle style - layered fabric that can absorb large volumes of water quickly

What does GSM mean on a product description?

GSM stands for grams per square metre. A higher than normal GSM (considered over the range of 300-600 GSM) towel is thicker, softer, and considered more luxurious, such as ones you may find in a hotel bathroom. Beach or other quick-dry towels meant for easy transportation are usually on the lower range of GSM.

Caring for your towels

  • Always read the care label instructions before beginning to wash.
  • Separate towels by colour.
  • Warm water (40 degrees Celsius) is recommended, as the material is thicker than most clothing or bedsheets. Hot water (60 degrees Celsius or above) can cause shrinkage, so it should only be used if staining is significant.
  • Concentrated stains can be spot-treated with vinegar, baking soda, etc, before machine washing.
  • Use mild detergent to prevent stiffening.
  • Air drying after machine washing is ideal, but towels can be tumble-dried on a low temperature if permitted by the care instructions.
