Hammered metalwork is one of the oldest fabrication techniques in existence — bronze vessels shaped by hand have been found in Egyptian tombs, Persian palaces, and the markets of medieval Isfahan, the indentations left by each strike becoming the surface itself rather than being smoothed away.
