Warm summer days are a luxury whilst sat outside topping up that natural tan, but when night time arrives and stuffy rooms are keeping you awake, the temperature suddenly becomes less pleasant. Lack of sleep can significantly affect our mood and ability to function, making us feel sluggish and unproductive. To combat this, we’re offering six steps to transform your home from hot to not and get a good night’s sleep this summer.
Blackout curtains reduce the heat entering your home via windows, acting as thermal insulators. Available as linings, curtains and blinds in plentiful patterns, the options are limitless. As well as cooling your homes in the summer, they will keep the warm temperature inside in winter.
Sleep masks help to block out natural and artificial light. Exposure to artificial light suppresses melatonin, the hormone which induces sleep, which can lead to sleep issues.
Consider investing in a sleep mask that allows for temperature variations; many sleep masks on the market can be warmed in the microwave or cooled in the freezer to relieve tired eyes and help ease sleep in warmer or cooler conditions.
Door stops prop doors open, allowing fresher air to flow through your home and help reduce the stuffy temperature. As well as being functional, door stops come in a variety of shapes and textures, so are an easy way to decorate your home.
When the heat is unbearable and you can’t seem to stay cool, having an ice-cold water bottle in your bed can significantly reduce your temperature. Simply fill your hot water bottle with freezing water, add a few ice cubes and it will work in the same way as a hot water bottle, only emitting refreshingly cold temperature.
