Discover Torres Novas Portuguese Towels and Home Textiles

Founded in the Portuguese town of Torres Novas in 1845, the Companhia Nacional de Fiação e Tecidos de Torres Novas began by spinning linen, jute and cotton for the domestic market. By the end of the 19th century, it had grown into one of Portugal’s largest manufacturing companies, establishing a tradition of textile craftsmanship that would span generations.

Following an extensive modernisation programme, the company began producing bath towels and other soft terry products in 1972, including bathrobes and slippers. As home to one of Portugal’s first terry cloth production lines, Torres Novas soon became a recognised name in Portuguese bath linens. Its reputation was built on high-quality manufacturing, fine raw materials and enduring designs such as Almonda, Luxus and Elegance.

After the original company closed in 2011, a new generation relaunched the Torres Novas brand in 2020 with the support of historic shareholder and former director Adolfo de Lima Mayer. Drawing on knowledge acquired since the original factory was founded, the revived brand preserves the quality and design character that made Torres Novas towels a familiar presence in Portuguese homes.
