Making New Years Resolutions is one of the best parts of starting the New Year, but it can be stressful, and hard to pick things you will actually follow through on well into the year. It can be difficult to know at the start of the year what you will want to be doing in June. For me, my main resolution last year was that I wanted to eat healthier; this fell through when I began comfort eating a lot in March. So we at myza have put together a list of some of the best tips and tricks, as well as our favourite products, to help you accomplish some traditional new years goals.

Losing weight and getting stronger

The most typical resolution is to either lose weight, get healthier, or get stronger. This can also be one of the hardest to accomplish, as it is such an undefined and genuinely difficult goal. So we need to break things down into more accomplishable steps. First, you should decide what your goal really is. Is there an item of clothing you desperately want to fit in by next year? Do you want to walk up and downstairs without losing your breath? Or maybe, you want to be able to run the London Half Marathon. With a goal in mind, you have to set a reasonable time frame.

Weight loss goals should never be for immediate results; if you want long term results, not immediate satisfaction, you have to incorporate your plan into your regular life in a way that doesn't make you hate it. Fad diets and weight loss pills may work in the short term, but won't lead to lasting change.

If you want to achieve this resolution in 2024, you need to plan ahead. And it's always a good idea to combine diet and exercise changes if you want to see real change. So what should you wear while working out? Why not try one of of our leggings.

Rising earlier in the New Year

This was my personal New Year's Resolution list for quite some time, but I think I've finally cracked it. Do you also struggle to wake up on chilly winter mornings? IF the sound of your alarm has always filled you with dread, this may be the perfect fix for you. Part of the problem of early mornings around this time of year is that you wake up before the sun! Well, we have found a fix for this.

The Lumie Bodyclock Rise 100 light wakes you up gradually with a natural, brightening 30-minute sunrise. The sunrise begins half an hour before your alarm time, first as a very soft glow then gradually reaching full brightness to wake you naturally. This signals your body to ease production of sleep hormones, like melatonin, and increase those that help you get up and go, like cortisol. There is also a night setting so you can have a gentle sunset on while you wind down for bed, regardless of the time of year.

Drinking, more or less

A lot of people give up alcohol for the month of January, or indeed for the rest of the year. Whether this is for health reasons, or just a desire to go without hangovers for the year, this can be a difficult goal to hit. A lot of people also forget how important drinking water is to living a happy and healthy life. Now I'm not saying you can wholly replace wine with water - and if you can, please share how! But sometimes of an evening, you think you want alcohol when actually you're just thirsty. Plus, alcohol is very drying, so you end up drinking more in an attempt to quench a thirst your drink is only exacerbating. If you are worried about your alcohol consumption, you can take this Drink Aware self-assessment tool to see how much you really drink, and if this is a problem. If you regularly drink at a certain time of day, like when you come home in the evening, make sure you have something, chilled, refreshing and non-alcoholic on hand to replace that alcoholic drink. We recommend sparkling water, or an iced tea, which you can make in batches and freeze for later.

If your problem is that you aren't drinking enough water, we have a much easier solution for you. The Chilly Stainless Steel Water Bottle is a great way to keep hydrated throughout the day. It keeps your water cold for 24 hours and hot for 12, and helps you to reduce your single use plastic.

New year, new skills

A favoured New Years resolution is to learn a new skill. You could learn a language, or a trade - you could even take up knitting. Overcoming challenges to your learning can also mean prioritizing your personal development. This might mean setting aside time to practice or study your skills or seeking out opportunities to further your progress. Making your personal development a top priority can help you when learning new skills. It is also important to seek out any and all opportunities to practise if you want to learn a skill forever, not just until you stop doing whatever it is you've learned. Muscle memory is good, but it's not that good. Try incorporating your skill learning into your daily routine. Listen to a foreign language audio book in the car on the school run if you're trying to learn a language. Knit while you watch a film at night. Maybe you're an early riser, in which case, try embroidering while drinking your morning coffee.

If you want help starting your day in the right headspace to study up on your new skill, try Blooming Blends' calm herbal tincture. Find peace and calm during unsettled times with this soothing herbal tincture blend of traditional herbs and plants extracted in an alcohol-free formulation to help guide you towards a sense of stillness and serenity.
