Kauf Studio is a highly creative and collaborative female-run lingerie studio, creating beautiful, high-quality and affordable lingerie. Expertly cut and comfortable, all of their garments are handmade in their studio in the North of England. As part of a strong, supportive community of local makers in Sheffield, they work with independent suppliers wherever possible.

Founder and designer Charlotte Kaufman comes from a line of seamstresses and studied Fashion Design at Sheffield Hallam University. Fit and form are in Charlotte’s DNA and she has always had a passion for lingerie and the way it can make you feel. Kauf is a celebration of the female form, in all of its forms and everyone is welcome.

We talk with Charlotte about her brand, and the importance of being sustainably and locally made.

Who founded Kauf Studio, and what inspired them?

Kauf Studio was founded by Charlotte Kaufman, a designer and fashion design graduate from Sheffield. A 3rd generation seamstress, I was inspired by the notion of contemporary reinterpretations of the feminine form and image using sustainable and modern systems and materials.

What makes Kauf Studio’s products different?

Kauf Studio’s emphasis on sustainability bespoke ordering, collaboration and the use of unique materials make it different. I wanted to create something that women would feel beautiful in and welcomes women of all shapes and sizes.

How are you focusing on sustainability?

Kauf Studio hand-makes products bespoke for each customer, which reduces material waste. Our packaging supplier is net zero and commits to reforestation by planting a tree for every order. Some of our range is produced from ‘dead stock’ items and others are made from off-cut waste materials.

Of the Kauf Studio items that we are featuring on myza, which is your particular favourite and why?

The products in the Wildwood collection are my favourites on Myza. These were designed collaboratively with my friend, botanical illustrator Grace Taylor. They are luxurious in finish and feel with amazingly beautiful detail.

Why the focus on being made in Sheffield?

Sheffield is a proud city full of makers and artisans with a strong history of creativity and innovation. Sheffield is my home city and I am proud to make products here, often working with other talented locals.

What drives you, and where do you get your inspiration from?

I am inspired by a wide range of influences including; mother nature, the global zeitgeist, fashion history, and pre-conscious future fashion extrapolations. I am driven by the need not only to survive – but to thrive.

My Pre-sleep ritual – I like to wash my face an hour or so before I go bed otherwise it wakes me up, Then I like to unwind with a cup of herbal tea usually peppermint or ginger and I’ll either put some TV on or listen to one of the many podcasts I have on the go and have a cuddle with the dog.
