SMUG: The Original Contoured 3D Blackout Sleep Mask Review

We’re supposed to be getting between seven and nine hours of restful sleep every night but with all the demands of modern life, how feasible is that? Sleep is one of the most essential components in everybody’s life. If you don’t get enough, it’s difficult to live a healthy lifestyle and function at our best. It can impact our mood, short-term memory, concentration levels and it’s also linked to a wide range of health risks. We spend approximately a third of our lives asleep, so it makes sense to put some effort into making our night’s sleep the best it can possibly be. And so, any product that promises a great night’s sleep is guaranteed to catch our attention.

Sleep masks are an effective and simple way to tackle poor sleep. If you’re a light sleeper who’s often woken by light or disturbance around you, they can really help. This is because when your brain senses complete darkness it causes the production of melatonin – the sleep hormone – and will increase the amount of REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. REM sleep plays an important role in learning and memory function, since this is when your brain consolidates and processes information from the day before so that it can be stored in your long-term memory. With a sleep mask you will have a deeper and more relaxing sleep. They are particularly beneficial for those who work night shifts and need to sleep in the daytime.

SMUG

For light-blocking sleep-masks that will make the most of your beauty sleep and ensure optimal REM look no further than the gorgeous collection of sleep-masks by SMUG. Their soft silk feel fabric provides a gentle surface for our skin whilst we sleep, reducing irritation and lessening the friction that can lead to wrinkles. And there are benefits for hair, too. SMUG’s luxury Sleep Masks which come in an array of colours and prints, are super-chic, but crucially they also block out light to create the perfect environment for sleep.

However, for those of you who don’t love the feeling of something over their eyelids, but need help shutting out ambient light, SMUG’s Contoured 3D Blackout Sleep Mask will strike just the right balance. With a unique contoured dome design and constructed from a lightweight foam, the moulded eye cups of these sleep masks leave space around the eye area thus avoiding putting any pressure on your eyelids – so completely makeup and eyelash friendly – whilst also contouring flat around your nose to block out all light. There’s an adjustable fastening at the back for additional comfort, too.

I found this very cleverly designed sleep mask totally blocked light. If like me, a very small amount of light filtering through blinds or curtains will wake you up, this mask will definitely be your sleep saviour. It provided total darkness even when the room was brightly lit. It’s perfect for when you’re trying to get uninterrupted eight hours of sleep, but I would also strongly advocate its’ use when travelling or even napping. The mask was super comfortable. It was exceptionally lightweight and soft and due to its dome design, did not touch or cause any irritation to the delicate and sensitive area around my eyes. With its adjustable fastening, one size fits all and the velcro fastener stayed securely shut during the night, preventing any tangles in my hair.

Whilst there are many ways you can change your daily routine to ensure you get a better night’s sleep, I would highly recommend using a SMUG 3D Blackout Sleep Mask as an effective means of achieving the best possible night’s slumber.
