In Conversation With: Fysha

Fysha

Fysha was born from the union of two words; the ‘FYS’ from the Greek word ‘FYSIS,’ meaning nature and the ‘HA’ from handmade. These two principles work in harmony to create its luxurious, nourishing soaps that respect the synergy between ourselves and nature. It believe nature offers everything we need for healthy, beautiful skin and are proud to honour the integrity of handmade production methods that enable us to create vegan soaps of uncompromising quality.

We speak to Amina about why she started Fysha and what makes her soaps so special

Tell me a little about yourself, and what inspired you to create Fysha?

Passionate about traveling to experience new cultures and cuisines. Yoga lover, big fan of mindful living and a foodie!

Frustrated with synthetic liquid soaps and shower gels that stripped my skin of its natural oils causing breakouts, dryness and more, I started to search for a natural, luxurious alternative that was in balance with my skin and principles. For me it’s simple. I’ve always seen cleansing as the first and most important step for any skincare routine because it lays the foundation for healthy, beautiful skin. Based on this and the belief that nature offers everything we need for a balanced skin, after a few years of tailoring palm oil free formulas I officially launched Fysha in 2016 out of my passion for holistic wellbeing.

Who are your target customers, and why?

For those who appreciate a story behind the brand, know the importance of clean beauty for their wellbeing and seek mindfully made artisan beauty products that will not ruin the environment.

What makes Fysha completely unique from your competitors?

Our brand ethos! When it comes to soap we’re evangelical. We don’t believe in adding anything unnecessary into our products and have gone to great lengths honing our formulations to ensure that the experience of using Fysha is as pleasurable as the results we bring to your skin. We only use the finest natural ingredients, meaning your skin receives all their natural beauty benefits without stripping it’s natural oil-to-water ratio with no added parabens, palm oil or synthetics. In fact we’re one of the few artisanal soap producers that don’t use palm oil, instead we rely on premium coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil for the foundation of all our soaps. With delicate natural scents, creamy textures and gentle clean-feel lathers, we certainly hope you will enjoy using them as much as we enjoying making them.

How important was creating a vegan soap, how did you select the ingredients for your soaps?

It was vital to create a range of luxurious natural vegan soaps of uncompromising quality that respect the delicate balance of our skin and also made in harmony with nature.

With a firm belief that nature offers everything you need for radiant skin, I passionately selected ONLY the finest NATURAL + PLANT BASED ingredients from food-grade, cold-pressed plant oils, clays, butters and sustainable sources. I don’t believe in excess, which is why in each of our soaps there are no more than eight ingredients. Every one of them has been carefully chosen to deliver high performance results for the skin. Always trusting nature as the source and quality over quantity.

What are the benefits of using Extra Virgin Olive Oil in your soap?

The benefits are countless. Gently purifying your skin, while respecting it’s delicate balance is essential for skin that glows with health. Our key ingredient Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the foundation of all our soaps and is sourced from a trusted small Greek family owned supplier who over generations have mastered the art of producing the finest quality.

The Egyptians and Ancient Greeks used olive oil in its purest form to fight the early signs of ageing, as it contains oleic acid, polyphenols and antioxidants including Vitamin A and E, working as a natural protector, moisturiser and cleanser thus contributing to healthier and more radiant skin. EVOO is also known to be hypoallergenic, meaning less likely to cause skin reactions and suitable for both young and adults.

You use the cold process method – an ancient art of soap making to make your soaps tell us a little more about how this process work?

The way we make our soaps is a true combination of art and science. This advanced and challenging method of cold process soap-making enables Fysha’s handmade soaps to harness the maximum benefit from every single ingredient. We lovingly and patiently hand craft all our soaps with attention to detail in small batches and watch each soap take shape from adding each individual ingredient to carefully blending the ingredients until saponification occurs.

This method ensures we are able to have full control over the finished product and are also able to retain the valuable natural properties of our ingredients and the high quality vegetable glycerin that is so often lost in other soap-making processes. After this, each batch of soap we make is cured for at least six weeks so that the excess moisture can evaporate leaving a longer lasting, higher quality bar of our vegan handmade soap to enjoy. I am confident you’ll agree when you experience Fysha for yourself, that this patience pays off.

What has been the most rewarding feedback you have received from a customer who has used your products?

A student suffering from acne prone skin since her teens used our oily to combination skin range. Feedback: “I tried several medical or natural soaps and I found it is the best natural soap! Using the soap with acne therapy products, my skin is smooth and clean! It has boosted my confidence which has been lacking since my teens”.

Where would you like your company to be in the next 10 years?

Introducing a new selection of high quality products that will inspire and enrich my customer’s daily life. Staying true to the brand ethos no matter what challenges we are confronted by and doing my small part for our planet Earth.

And finally, a few pearls of wisdom from you! Run us through your recipe for great sleep, and some do’s and don’ts that we ought to follow in our pre-sleep schedules/ What’s one thing you recommend we do with our nighttime routine for better sleep and better health?

Our personal hygiene should be part of our daily night time routine. Being mindful to something as simple as your skincare routine at night, far from being a monotonous task, becomes an act of self-love, appreciation and destress. At night I need extra help loosening up and calming down. A warm shower with our Lavender & French Pink Clay soap works wonders. Inhaling the aromas of this luxurious product helps to create a sense of relaxation and serenity.

One thing that I would recommend for better sleep and health is to turn all electronic devices and no social media before bedtime. Instead read a book, listen to soothing music or meditate.
