Viva Scandinavia

In Conversation With: Viva Scandinavia

Viva’s mission is to inspire the world to relax and feel better with the perfect tea experience, every single time. Tea has been a tradition for most cultures for the past 5000 years. Tea is the social lubricant for human social interactions and for celebratory ceremonies, gesture of hospitality and goodwill. It’s the go-to beverage to relax and reflect on precious moments. VIVA honours and value the importance of this ancient tradition strives to modernize these traditions and take them to new heights.

We speak to Kees, VIVA’s co-Founder about why he started Viva Scandinavia and what makes teaware so special

Tell us a little about yourself, and what inspired you to create Viva Scandinavia?

I am Kees van Elderen, VIVA’s co-Founder and Managing Director for our European business. I started in 2015 on this journey together with Peng Lin, CEO, founding father and Tea Lover, who grew up in Aarhus, Denmark. In September 2010, Peng wondered why it’s seemingly complicated to find fine tea and similarly difficult to find aesthetically pleasing tea-ware to compliment the fine tea it carries and this was the start of VIVA as it is today.

How did you choose the name?

The word ‘VIVA’ is used as an expression of praise and the celebration of life. Thus, we celebrate the power of tea that changes people’s lives. Celebrating the existence of the endless health benefits, the ritual and its relaxing, feel-good ways.

What makes Viva Scandinavia completely different to all the other teaware brands out there?

In short, VIVA disrupts the market by being consumer-centric, treating tea as a unique personalized experience rather than a commodity.

Where do you get your design inspiration from?

In fact, behind every cup, strainer, or teapot we dedicate a significant amount of time and resources in research and development with nothing but our tea lovers’ needs in mind, reflecting our Scandinavian design roots and cosines. From the size of the spout to the fine patterns of the infuser, using premium sustainable materials and world- class craftsmanship, our products are made to last.

What has been the most rewarding feedback you have received from a customer who has purchased one of your products?

The most rewarding feedbacks are the ones we get with product improvements. If the consumer is trying to help us improve the product we always look into it.

Of the Viva Scandinavia products that we are featuring on myza, which is your particular favourite and why?

The Saga Cast Iron teapot is one of the most beautiful teapots I have ever seen out in the market. The colours are very distinctive as is the design, LOVE IT

Where do you see Viva Scandinavia being in the next five years?

Tea has been a tradition for most cultures for the past 5000 years. Tea is the social lubricant for human social interactions and for celebratory ceremonies, gesture of hospitality and goodwill. It’s the go-to beverage to relax and reflect on precious moments. At VIVA, we honour and value the importance of this ancient tradition. And so, we strive to modernize these traditions and take them to new heights, allowing to pass them on to current and future generations to maintain its endless values.

Finally, a few pearls of wisdom from you! Run us through your recipe for a great night’s sleep, and some do’s and don’ts that you recommend following, or including in a pre-sleep schedule.

Do enjoy a herbal tea in the evening, e.g. Chamomile. Perhaps one of the most popular known uses of chamomile tea is to help relieve stress and anxiety. The best time to sip on a warm cup of chamomile tea is 30 minutes before you climb into bed. That will allow your body the time needed to digest and your blood to deliver the apigenin to your brain for the calming effects of the herb to start working.
Don’t drink any black or green teas. These teas have Caffeine in it 😉
