Sharon Jane Whitehurst, studio founder, graduated with an MA in Printed Textiles from the Royal College of Art and since the successful launch of her studio has designed and hand printed bespoke fabrics for a wide variety of companies and individual clients. These include Ulf Moritz, Marks & Spencer, Karl Lagerfeld and a host of high profile celebrities such as Pamela Stephenson and Billy Connolly. Her designs frequently feature on greetings cards, rugs and fashion fabrics.
Her passion for painting and love of using colour is very much apparent in her products which are derived from drawings and paintings first produced in the studio, experimenting with different looks from simple motifs and marks to gestural brush strokes and layered complex colour. Although she has a love for screen and mono printing, she has embraced the digital printing method which captures the essence of the abstract painterly colour combinations in her work.
She has designed and styled ranges for large wallpaper manufacturers gaining experience in wallpaper design for high street brands and exclusive retailers alike as well as maintaining her core interest of producing on a smaller scale by hand. Initially mainly producing hand screen printed wallpapers for interior designers and Architects, printing to order allowed more focus and ultimately less waste whilst producing custom designs for many interesting projects and installations. The Wallcoverings have won several design awards and with the recent addition of fabrics, cushions and lampshades the studio continues to develop.
